Joe Nathan Lourdes underwent dental surgery (a root canal) using hypnosis as the only anaesthetic to test just how powerful hypnosis is, back in 2005, just a few months after training as a hypnotist.

The surgery went well and Joe is now Director of Hypnosis Works Pte Ltd and co-founder of APHI (Asia Pacific Hypnosis Institute).

He is trained as a Certified Hypnotherapist with the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH) and also in Hypno-Pain Management.

Joe is Singapore’s only NGH-trained stage hypnotist and is comfortable hypnotising groups of people. He also has certifications as a 5-PATH and 7-PATH Hypnotherapist from the Banyan Hypnosis Center.

Joe spent 15 years as a journalist, rising quickly up the ranks to be a senior editor by the time he was in his late 20s. He has always been looking for effective ways of managing goals and aspirations, and now believes he has found it in hypnosis.

Achievements:

As a teenager, in 1984, Joe did a six-week cycling tour of Peninsular Malaysia, having raised funds by doing odd-jobs to finance the journey, which turned out to be an amazing rite of passage and an illustration of the importance of vision, followed by a plan, to achieve superlative goals.
In February 2003, as a 38-year-old, Joe ran 42km, the distance of a full marathon, to fulfill his word to himself.

In 2004, he cycled from Cambodia to Singapore, a distance of more than 1,500km, as a guest of The 1st Singapore Transcontinental cycling expedition. (www.nopuncturesplease.com) It was partly a desire to get back on the road, outside of the normal life and taste the reality that is obfuscated by routines.

Joe is an inspiring and multi-talented individual, having served in various senior positions at The New Paper, including Chief Sub-Editor, Sunday Editor, Morning Editor, Night Editor, Creative Editor. He also sat in the Singapore Press Holdings’ English and Malay Newspapers’ Division (EMND) newspaper awards committee, a group of senior editors who decide on the monthly and yearly awards. He represented The New Paper at a newspaper conference in Paris and presented a paper on the conflict between editorial and advertising for space.

His passion is now in hypnosis, aikido and cycling.
He has a BA from the National University of Singapore and is currently working on a Masters in Social Science (Counselling) with the University of South Australia.
